Nutritional expertise devoted entirely to baby

More than at any other time in human existence, food is crucial to the physiological development of babies from 0 to 36 months. This is especially true during the first 6 months, when breastfeeding brings all of the nutrients that the new-born needs for his development. But it is not always possible for breastfeeding to fill this nutritional role, for any number of reasons. In that case, baby milks can substitute for mother’s milk to fill potential gaps and provide balanced nutrition suited to the growth stage of the child.

Later, at around 4 to 6 months, food diversification gradually takes hold, with the infant increasing his gustatory and nutritional pallet up to the age of 3 years. This is when he tastes his first prepared dishes. Like liquid infant formulas, Materna applies the same rigorous requirements to its prepared baby foods, adding a touch of culinary know-how inspired directly by the French tradition. Achieving nutritional balance does not mean the food cannot taste good!

A product line for each stage in baby’s growth

To satisfy both needs, Materna draws on expertise that is totally focused on the special dietary requirements of babies from 0 to 36 months. The company manufactures a full range of organic and conventional baby foods to give baby the right food and begin the process of food diversification. It offers two categories of products:

Liquid (ready-to-feed) baby milks:
- 1st stage milk for the new-born to 6-month-old
- 2nd stage milk for 6 months to 12 months
- 3rd stage milk for 10/12 months to 36 months
- milk and cereals for 6 months to 36 months

Prepared baby foods starting at 4 to 6 months:
- Fruits and vegetables
- Full meals
- Milk-based desserts

At 6 months, the baby already weighs twice his birth weight. At 1 year old, his weight will have tripled! This rapid physiological evolution requires the diversification of food, starting at 4 to 6 months, to ensure the nutritional intake vital to baby’s growth. The gradual introduction of baby foods will also allow him to discover new textures and new flavors.

Nutritional balance at every age

Experts recommend starting food diversification at around 4 to 6 months, beginning with fruits and vegetables and then, starting at 8 months, gradually introducing meat or fish. Textures must be suitable for each age: smooth purees in the beginning followed by little morsels that melt in the mouth to initiate baby in chewing.

From 6 to 36 months, the products offered by Materna contain the recommended nutrients in quantities that are balanced and suitable to the age of the baby. They are also very practical in their flexible or rigid plastic packaging, which is easy to transport and reheat.

Materna is able to call on a board of pediatricians and nutritionists to validate the nutritional profile of a recipe to make sure that it meets baby's nutritional requirements at each age. Materna can thus offer medical reassurance at its customers’ request, bolstering the brand’s credibility and strengthening consumer confidence.
